Daniel Vazquez Receives Departmental Honors at UW-Waukesha Graduation

2012 May 23

Daniel Vazquez, Pewaukee, was honored by the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha's mathematics department at the college's spring commencement on May 17.

Vazquez came to the United States from Toluca, Mexico, six years ago and has overcome many hardships to succeed at UW-Waukesha, including caring for his late mother and having a limited knowledge of the English language, said Shubhangi Stalder, professor of mathematics. "At UW-Waukesha, Daniel has excelled in mathematics courses. He has earned an A in every course he has taken, starting with Math 110, Math 113, Math 221, 222, 223 and 224," she said. "Daniel says, 'Math is easy; you don't have to know much English to understand it.'"

Departmental honors are awarded to students nominated by faculty for truly outstanding work in their discipline. Honors are only bestowed when an individual department so designates. All UW-Waukesha students are eligible for this award.
